Violence Awareness Week 2011
The Third Annual Violence Awareness Week will be held on campus starting on October 25th through October 28th. Each evening throughout the week there will be events to raise awareness over a different type of violence and how to help deal with them.
Multiple organizations have contributed to making this week as informative and helpful as possible. Links to these organizations can be found below.
Safe Homes is a non-profit organization with goals to help aid those who have been subjected to domestic abuse.
Sean's Last Wish
Sean's Last Wish is an organization that speaks against hate crimes. They wish to educate the public on "how bullying, hatred, intolerance, prejudice, violence and religious beliefs can lead to senseless crimes," while seeking to raise awareness for the faults in the current laws to punish against those found guilty of these bias motivated crimes.
Men Can Stop Rape
"Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) is a national Washington, DC based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to mobilize men to use their strength for creating cultures free from violence, especially men’s violence against women. Since our inception in 1997, MCSR has led the call to redefine masculinity and male strength as part of preventing men’s violence against women.”

Prelude -- Wednesday, October 12
On October 12 from 11:45-12:15 PM we will ask that the five fraternity members and five athletes participate in the “Slap fives, not wives” campaign to help raise awareness. We will also ask people to wear purple that day since this is the day that Safe Homes will be doing their campaign “Paint the town purple."
